Task 3: The Importance of communication skills for engineers

"Developing excellent communication skills is absolutely essential to effective
leadership. The leader must be able to share knowledge and ideas to transmit a
sense of urgency and enthusiasm to others. If a leader can't get a message across
clearly and motivate others to act on it, then having a message doesn't even
matter."
Gilbert Amelio, former President and CEO of National Semiconductor Corp

Having outstanding communications skills is critical to all great leaders. As a leader needs to be able to convey his message and knowledge across to all his followers. If the leader is unable to open up channels of communications, there will be a lapse in accuracy when it comes to the information presented.  Without being able to deliver the message accurately with the right sense of urgency and eagerness, it will be very difficult to lead the team to success and stay on task throughout a project or task assigned to the group. Hence, I agree with the author that having excellent communications skills is essential to effective leadership. As it keeps everyone in the loop and motivated to strive for the work to be accomplished.

  2. I really agree with the point of a leader needing the right sense of urgency and eagerness as a leader has to set an example for people to follow, it the leader does not lead by example, the members in the team will not look up to the leader and do their work properly.
