The webpage “Rainwater Harvesting 101” from Innovative Water Solutions LLC introduces what is rainwater harvesting (Maxwell-Gaines, 2020). Rainwater harvesting is essentially collecting run-off from buildings and other impermeable surfaces for future use. Conventionally, the rain will be collected in gutters that channel water downspouts and into a storage unit. It can range from a simplistic system like collecting water in a rain barrel to being as complicated as harvesting rainwater into a large cistern to supply an entire household. Traditionally, rainwater harvesting usually conjures up a primitive image of an old farm cistern or thoughts of developing countries. The reality is that many other countries are adopting this method as it is proving to be a viable method in supplying water (Maxwell-Gaines, 2020).
