Critical Reflection

When I first stepped into this class, I thought to myself why I must go through another communication module when I have already gone through so many during my polytechnic days and even had to speak regularly in front of a crowd during my National Service. However, during the first lesson, I realized I still had issues when speaking in front of the crowd and communicating effectively with my team members despite already having so much experience in doing so. After realizing my shortcomings, I set out to become a better speaker and a more vocal teammate. Throughout the duration of the trimester, I learnt various presentations techniques that allowed me to engage the crowd and allow them to focus their attention on me. These techniques include maintaining eye contact with the audience, moving around the stage and appropriate word stress when highlighting a point. Answering questions and reading aloud in class made me more comfortable in my speaking abilities which in turn gave me the c

3D printing is an additive technology used to manufacture parts. It is ‘additive’ because it doesn’t require a block of material or a mold to manufacture parts, it stacks and fuses layers of material. It is typically fast, with low fixed setup costs, and can create more complex objects than ‘traditional’ technologies, with an extensive list of materials that can be used (TWI, 2019). This process of additive manufacturing is the direct opposite of traditional subtractive manufacturing, which refers to a final design being cut out from a block of material (Hubs, n.d.) 3D printing is an additive technology used to manufacture parts.  According to Carmel (2020), there are few options for 3D printing in the construction industry, with the likes of robotic arm extruders, sand 3D printing and metal technology. For the robotic arm extruders it is very similar to the Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) 3D printing, for sand 3D printing it is similar to the Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) and jet f

The webpage “Rainwater Harvesting 101” from Innovative Water Solutions LLC introduces what rainwater harvesting is (Maxwell-Gaines, 2020). Rainwater harvesting is essentially collecting run-off from buildings and other impermeable surfaces for future use. Conventionally, the rain will be collected in gutters that channel water downspouts and into a storage unit. It can range from a simplistic system like collecting water in a rain barrel to being as complicated as harvesting rainwater into a large cistern to supply an entire household. Traditionally, rainwater harvesting usually conjures up a primitive image of an old farm cistern or thoughts of developing countries (Maxwell-Gaines, 2020). The reality is that many other countries are adopting this method as it is proving to be a viable method in supplying water (Maxwell-Gaines, 2020). As stated by Housing Development Board (HDB) (n.d.), rainwater harvesting will be introduced as an alternative to boost water resource efficiency in publ
